Yes! Ufology is a Subject Academics Should be Researching!
Meet Matthew Hayes: A PhD that dared to complete his Doctorate with a Dissertation on the History of UFOs in Canada.
I’m an educator, researcher, and filmmaker.
Dr. Hayes teaches philosophy, politics, English, and ethics at Northern Lakes College. He received his PhD from Trent University and held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. He studies conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, “cranks,” UFOs and the supernatural, and Cold War espionage.
My doctoral research was featured on CBC Radio’s Ideas, which became the subject of my book Search for the Unknown.

Attendees of this month’s Northland MUFON meeting were given an early Christmas present! Lenval Logan (or simply “Logan,” as he prefers) delivered one of the most engaging and well-rounded presentations we’ve had.
If you’re science-minded, Logan had you covered. If you’re newer to the UFO/UAP phenomenon, he had you covered there too. His extensive background is impressive, but what truly sets him apart is his ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and connect with people. Logan was highly engaging and generously answered the many thoughtful questions from the audience. Judging by the energy in the room, everyone had a great time.
Logan previously served on the UAP Task Force alongside figures such as Lue Elizondo, Jay Stratton, and Chris Mellon. The task force was never intended to be public; it was originally formed to protect pilots encountering strange and sometimes dangerous objects near their aircraft. As it turns out, many pilots worldwide — including those flying AWACS aircraft — have witnessed the phenomenon. According to Logan, a significant amount of video evidence remains classified… and wouldn’t we all love to see it? He also shared his perspective that disclosure has already occurred — what we’re waiting for now is confirmation. Let’s hope it comes sooner rather than later.
If you think you’ve heard every UFO story out there, Logan still managed to surprise us with a few lesser-known accounts. One involved the retrieval of a “Test Torpedo”. During that mission, a diver was lowered via helicopter to coordinate the hook up and retrieve the torpedo when the pilot suddenly yanked him upward. Beneath the torpedo was a massive black “island” or an object that none of the crew had ever seen before — it then pulled the torpedo straight down into the depths. Logan also described another incident involving a gigantic black circular object traveling just beneath the ocean’s surface at approximately 200 knots (230 mph). The object, observed in an undisclosed location, was estimated to be larger than an oil rig — over 330 feet in diameter.
Logan also introduced a phone app called “Phenom”. Phenom is a free data-collection app he has developed for iOS and Android. The app allows users to point their phone at any anomaly — including potential paranormal activity — and upload all associated data to a centralized platform. While still in development, the app is available for download and use. Notably, Fred Paulssen from the Hessdalen Project was also in attendance and offered to collaborate with Logan on data collection efforts. Exciting times indeed!
This meeting also marked Northland MUFON’s 2nd Anniversary, which we celebrated with a small Christmas party featuring cake, pizza, and door prizes.

Logan’s Bio:
Lenval “Logan” Logan is originally from the United Kingdom and enjoyed a twenty + year career in the United States Air Force, over fifteen years government contractor and also with military intelligence and a former UAP task force member under Jay Stratton. For many years, he has been interested in unexplained and anomalous phenomena taking place around the world and has been looking for better way to capture scientific evidence to better expose and understand the nature of UAP’s, Cryptozoology Paranormal sightings and activities. His goal is to move these subjects from the area of fringe science into mainstream science via evidence -based practices. He is an active member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU) and National Capital Area Skeptics (NCAS) in Washington, DC.
Logan is an inventor, and is a co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer for a small start-up called Phenom, LLC, which has created “Phenom” a citizen science, crowdsourcing, multi-function “Phenom” App—a platform for reporting UAP and paranormal sightings. The app aims to democratize data collection and reduce stigma around unexplained phenomena.

Camille’s Bio:
Camille James Harman, MFA, is an actress and UFO experiencer with such credits as: the Oscar-winning film Vice, in the role of Mary Matalin, as well as Shameless, the Lifetime movie A Daughter’s Deceit and numerous films, web series, commercials and music videos. Harman was Executive Producer on the award-winning short film Toro de Oro. In 1992, she won the Storer Boone Award in New Orleans for Best Supporting Actress in The Playboy of the Western World. In 2022 she won three international Best Actress Awards for the short film Tigerlily.
In late 1995, soon after moving to LA from New Orleans, Harman had her first UFO sighting. Abduction experiences followed. She underwent hypnosis sessions with Barbara Lamb and Yvonne Smith, which revealed medical experiences with presumed aliens and human military as well as positive light beings of pure love. She also wrote for UFO magazine from 2000-2004, which allowed her to meet many legendary UFO researchers.

Scott has written six books focused on the theme of “Templars in America“. Ryan’s Bio:
Ryan S. Wood, born in Maryland and raised in Southern California, is a distinguished UFOlogist and researcher, following in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Robert M. Wood, who was involved in UFO physics and anti-gravity research at Douglas Aircraft. Ryan graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1978, with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, later building a career in marketing, sales engineering, and corporate management across multiple industries, including aerospace, energy conservation, and fusion technology. He is currently the CEO of Electric Fusion Systems Inc.
Wood is widely regarded as a leading expert on the Majestic-12 documents and the 1941 Cape Girardeau UFO crash. He has lectured extensively, taught college courses on the subject, and organized seven international UFO crash retrieval symposia 2003-2009. He has been featured in numerous television programs, including on the History Channel and ABC News, and has been a guest on popular radio shows like Coast to Coast AM. Additionally, Wood manages the website MajesticDocuments.com and co-produced The Secret, a television documentary that aired on the Sci-Fi Channel, exploring the authenticity of the Majestic-12 documents.
He has authored several books on the topic, including Majic Eyes Only: Earth’s Encounters with Extraterrestrial Technology, The AI UFOlogist and a soon to be published work UFOs: Who Knows? He is a key figure in UFO research conferences like MUFON and CITD. Through his investigative efforts, Wood has become a leading voice in unraveling the truth behind historical UFO cases, advocating for greater transparency and the release of classified information related to UFOs. His current interest is on building www.ufodex.com, an online AI-powered intelligence investigation and knowledge tool, along with a focus on Anti-Gravity investigations.

Mike’s Bio:
Researcher Mike Ricksecker is the author of the award-winning Travels Through Time, Amazon best-sellers A Walk In The Shadows and Alaska’s Mysterious Triangle, as well as several historic paranormal books. He has appeared on multiple television shows and programs, including History Channel’s Ancient Aliens and The UnXplained, Travel Channel’s The Alaska Triangle, Discovery+’s Fright Club, Animal Planet’s The Haunted, multiple series on Gaia TV, and more. Mike is the producer and director of the docu-series, The Shadow Dimension, available on several streaming platforms, and produces additional full-length content on ancient wisdom, lost civilizations, UFOs, and the supernatural on his extensive YouTube channel.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mike is a U.S. Air Force veteran with a background in Intelligence and a degree in computer simulation programming. He’s been researching unexplained phenomena across the world for over 30 years.
